RYLA 2008 – A Leadership Academy for Young Adults

What is RYLA?
- Leadership training for young adults (19-25 years) led by a professional facilitator experienced in youth leadership development and supported by RYLA graduates and Rotarians;
- One week residential program on a college/university campus consisting of lectures, simulation games, discussion groups, committee work, public speaking, social activities;
- An opportunity to learn, grow, share ideas, have fun and make new friends.
As a District 7090 sponsored award program since 1973, RYLA demonstrates Rotary’s respect and concern for youth. It is one of Rotary International’s New Generation Programs.
Who is eligible?
RYLA is a program for young adults - professionals, entrepreneurs, college/university students, who demonstrate self-awareness, leadership qualities and concern for others. Candidates must be 19 to 25 (inclusive) years of age and able to attend the week-long program, staying on campus and free of any other commitments during its duration.
What are the benefits?
RYLA participants will equip themselves for success in their academic, career and personal lives by expanding their knowledge of their leadership potential and enhancing their skills in the areas of creative thinking, communication, problem solving, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships and group dynamics. They will also gain a greater understanding of Rotary and experience firsthand the meaning of “Service Above Self”.
Rotary Club Responsibilities:
- Recruitment, Selection & Registration of RYLA Candidates:
Each Rotary Club is responsible for recruiting, selecting, and registering its candidate(s). Registration is limited to 40 candidates and available on a first come first serve basis.
You can register online for RYLA or Slapshot with Cheryle Slattery at cherylet@cogeco.ca in Canada or Joe McCoy at Joe1mccoy@roadrunner.com in the U.S. You can also register at the district website and brochures will be available by the end of October. Register early to avoid disappointment.

The fee is $600 per candidate if paid by April 25, 2008 when it will increase to $650 per candidate. The sponsoring club pays this fee, which covers instruction, accommodation, meals, entertainment and organizational expenses.
The sponsoring Rotary Club is also responsible for the candidate’s transportation to and from Niagara College.
Registration & PAYMENT IN FULL must be submitted to the appropriate REGISTRAR
no later than MAY 25, 2008. Registrations received after this date will NOT be valid.
